7. Handset firmware upgrade

SUOTA (Software Update Over The Air) support has been added starting from firmware version 238.
  • Handset has to be fully charged.
  • Open the Menu of the handset go to: Settings - System - Handset Update
  • Downloading the software will take 15-20 minutes.

alert Remarks: Handset will get the update menu item during registration. If the handset was already registered to the base station running a firmware lower than version 236 then the update menu item will not be visible. To solve this, de-register the handset and register it again.

Gigaset N720 IP Pro & N720 DM Pro

1. Base Station Overview

alert Beware: The DectManager doesn't emit any DECT signal!
Therefore, if you want to benefit from a fully functionnal DECT system, the DectManager should be setup along with at least one Satellite BaseStation!

N720BaseStationOverview.png

2. Module & resources specific configuration

First of all, configure and install the module:

GigasetModule.png

Then, configure the different resources (at least one SDG2 & one SDG4 for a fully functional DECT system):

alert Unlike for the previous N510 base station, where we only needed to specify the handset number (max. 6) and the base station MAC address, here we will have to specify 3 different identifiers:
  • The DECT Manager MAC address in the resource configuration of each HandSet/BaseStation we want to connect, as for the N510.
    That identifier can be found:
    • Near the barcode on the DECT manager packaging
    • On the DECT manager device itself
  • Each handset IPUI in their related resource configuration, instead of the handset ID.
    That identifier can be found:
    • Near the barcode on the handsets packaging
    • By doing the following manipulation on the handset: Idle screen ► menu button ► key combination ✱#06# ► first line
  • Each base station MAC addresses in their related resource configuration.
    Those identifiers can be found:
    • Near the barcode on the base stations packaging
    • On the base stations devices themselves

For every newly added HandSet, create the corresponding SDG2 resource:

SDG2_RSRC.png

For every newly added Satellite BaseStation, create the corresponding SDG4 resource:

SDG4_RSRC.png

3. Handsets Registration

alert Remarks:
  • Unlike for the N510 base station, registration must only be initiated on the handsets.
  • As for the N510 base station, only one handset can be registered at a time, therefore you'll have to repeat that procedure for every handset you want to connect.
  • As for the N510 base station, a restart of the base station will be required for the changes to be taken into account.

On the base station

Appart of restarting the device, there should be nothing else to do! If problems occur, see how to reset the base station causing troubles.

On the handset

RegistrationScreen.png

If your last "Apply Changes" has been done at time T, then the base station will enter registration mode at T + 10! Therefore, after restarting the base station, wait at least 10 minutes before starting registering all of your configured handsets and only then:
  • Press the "Register" virtual context key
  • You shouldn't be prompted for the base station PIN code but if so, enter the default one which is 0000.
  • Now, your handset should be registered!

ALERT! If you encounter issues registering the handset to the base station, don't hesitate to hard reset the concerned handset!

4. DECT Manager & Base Stations Restart

alert Remarks: You will need to do an apply changes on the SMP & reboot the base station each time you want it to look for its updated configuration file (XML) on the usual provisioning server (same IP).

Using the DECT manager / base station

  • Simply remove and plug the power cable back in the base station (or Ethernet cable in case of PoE)

On the handset

  • GigasetBaseRestart.png

5. DECT Manager & Base Stations Reset

alert Remarks:
  • You will need to reset the base station each time you want it to look for its configuration file (XML) on another provisioning server (different IP).
  • First, you will need to reset all the base stations linked to the same DECT manager (without starting them back) and only then reset & restart the corresponding DECT manager.
    • Reset every base stations
    • Reset DECT manager
    • Power up DECT manager
    • Power up every base stations

Using the base station

  • Disconnect the device power supply.
  • Press and hold the reset button.
  • Reconnect the device to the mains power supply while the reset button is depressed.
  • Release the reset button again when the second LED from the top (Power/LAN) starts flickering.

On the handset

  • GigasetBaseReset.png (PIN code required)

6. Handset Reset

Soft reset

  • GigasetHandsetReset.png

Hard reset

  • Switch off the handset.
  • Press and hold 1 / 4 / 7 at the same time while switching on the handset (after booting, the device should "service" mode).
  • Press the following key combination: 76200 (a servicing menu should be shown).
  • From the menu, select the "Handset reset" item and press OK.
  • The handset will switch off and will be reset to factory default.

7. DECT manager / base station firmware upgrade

  • Install the new version of the module Gigaset Phone Support through the SMP.
  • Launch an apply changes on the SMP.
  • Reboot the DECT manager / base station through the SMP a first time, the DECT manager will download his configuration file:

After some config change, all seems fine but handset aren't registered anymore

Go to "Mobile Devices"

image.png

This table shows 2 information :
  • SIP status : are the resource correctly registered ? only at SIP level between SOP and the SIP device SDG2
  • Handset status : are the link is done between the IPUI (handset unique identifier) and the SIP resource account ?

  • Username Display Name : show the resource name ( SDG2xxxx) AND the name displayed
  • SIP Connection : related to the VoIP provider, should be "Escaux"
  • Mobile Device Registered : related to the handset, not SIP !!!
    • show "IPUI" : means that no handset is connected to this SIP account. If you call it, you will go to the second action
    • show "S650H PRO 74" : show the handset model and the software version. all is good for this one.

Go to "Status"
At the end of this page, you will see this

unnamed.png

It means that these handset aren't linked to a SIP account. They will not work ....

Sometimes, the customer can say "ok but on my phone, I don't have anymore the register button, how can I solve this ?"

best way : reset the handset. The button will appears, just push it and all will be fine

Why is my Satellite BaseStation not synchronizing with the DectManager BaseStation?

Go to "Network and Connections" ► "Base Station Settings"
If the status of you satellite is "Offline" instead of the required "Active and synced", that means the concerned satellite is not properly synchronized with the rest of your roaming cluster.
One of the possible reasons (the only one known up to now) may be the misalignment of the firmware version with the DectManager.
To make sure of it, go to the "Status" tab and check that the "Current firmware version of DECT Manager" is properly aligned with the "Base Station Current version".
If not, you can try to force the upgrade following 2 different methods:

  • By triggering the upgrade process from the DectManager (won't work if the DectManager is already at the latest available firmware version)
Go to "Settings" > "Management" > "Firmware Update" > "Start Firmware Update or Downgrade" > "Update firmware"
If error "Firmware update not possible. Firmware is up to date", try the following alternative method.
  • By triggering individual, satellite-specific upgrade
Go to "http://<SOP_IP>/hidden_firmware_update.html" > "Firmware Update for Base Stations" > "Update firmware"

HiddenFWupd8.png

If the firmware URL is not filled in as it should, complete it regarding the latest version available on your SOP (v110 at the time of writing)
http://<SOP_IP>/71/1/sat7111000000000.bin

After the successful upgrade, the firmware versions should be aligned and therefore the satellites should be able to sync between each other.

Why I am not able to connect to the Web Interface of the N720

There are two type of boxes. The DECT Manager and the Satellite. Check that you are connecting to the DECT Manager. You might also need to be on the same Subnet. THis is a default security settings of the Base Station.

How to do a factory reset of the N720 DECT Manager

  • Power off the device
  • press the reset button and keep it pressed
  • put back the power
  • wait for the second led to start blinking (around 20s)
  • release the reset button

How is the base station supposed to get its IP & XML file?

By default, the basestation should request DHCP option 114 as provided by the "DHCP Server" module > 2.5.0 Make sure that option is also provided if the customer is using its own DHCP server.

Gigaset N670/N870 IP Pro

1. Base Station Overview

N870IP-overview.png

Gigaset's official documentation :

Guide for installation on Irisnet SOP : https://intranet.escaux.com/docs/InternalDocs/IrisnetGigasetIntegration

N670 and N870 are identical, upgrading 670 → 870 is just a matter of license to fit the needs as the network grows up (read more here).

Role

This base station can play multiple roles and you have to pick one before starting
  • Base station
    • Provide cell site DECT functions
    • Provide media processing from handset directly towards PBX
    • Provide connection channels for the handsets, the number depends on various factors such as the approved bandwidth and the device role
  • DECT Manager
    • Manages bases station synchronisation within the clusters
    • Provides application gateway between SIP signalling and DECT signalling
    • Controls the media path from PBX to relevant base stations
  • DECT Integrator
    • Integrates multiple DECT managers to one roaming domain
    • Contains the central DECT subscriber database
    • Provides a web user interface for subscriber configuration
    • Provides access to the configuration for all DECT managers and the base station synchronisation hierarchy

In small and medium installations the integrator and DECT manager are located on the same device. For large installations the integrator will be provided as a virtual machine.

2. Module & resources specific configuration

Nothing particular about the module

there are 2 types of resources
  • SDG5 GigasetN870IP : to configure the DECT phone
  • SDG6 GigasetN870SAT : to configure an additional base station (multi-cell network)

Only SDG5 resources need to be added as phone of an extension.

SDG5 and SDG6 resources must be configured using parameters from a master resource in order to have theire configuration generated properly. When adding a new resource use the option 'uses parameters from' with a master resource (SDG5Z000|SDG6Z000 or another master resource).

SDG5 configuration

There are standard SIP device options (Remote-party-ID header, reinvite, codec).
The most important is the IPUI, it will link this value to the SIP credentials (SDG5+password) in the DECT Manager.
You can find it directly on the handset : Idle screen ► menu button ► key combination ✱#06# ► first line
At Apply Changes, a config file for the provisioning of the DECT Manager is created under /var/www/gigaset/MAC.xml (it includes provisioning of your handset on it as well).

NOTE : the MAC you have to set is the one of the station working as DECT Manager and that will manage this handset.

SDG6 configuration

Find information about its parameters (Cluster, Sync Lvl, LAN Master) in the documentation of the resource.
This resource stands for base stations to add to a Cluster already managed by a DECT Manager in order to form a multi-cell network.
At Apply Changes, the stuff to provision your base station to the DECT Manager is appended to the config file /var/www/gigaset/MAC.xml. So at least 1 headphone SDG5 has to be created as well !

The configuration of a newly added base station and an already added base station is different. In order to add a base station, a first apply changes will generate the configuration to add the base station, then following apply changes wil adapat the configuration in order to make modification to the base station. The second apply changes is required to avoid errors during the provisioning process. In order to add a new base station follow this procedure:

► Add the SDG6 resource and configure it

► Launch a first apply changes

► Make sure the base station has been added in the web interface of the DECT manager after the provisioning process

► Launch a second apply changes

alert Don't launch the two apply changes one after the other, or the provisioning process will fail.

NOTE : the MAC you have to set is the one of the station working as DECT Manager and that will manage this base station (so it shares it with headphones actually)

3. Base Station Set-up

alert Beware: The DectManager doesn't accept to be reached outside his own network. The setup must be done through HTTPS web interface and on the same network.

Choose role

On delivery all N870 IP PRO devices are configured as base station. To set up the DECT multicell system at least one device must be configured as DECT manager.

You use the device button on the front side to change the role of the device. The following settings are possible:
  • Base station
  • Base station and DECT manager with dynamic IP settings (large installation)
  • Integrator/DECT manager with dynamic IP address (small/medium installation)
  • Integrator/DECT manager with fixed IP settings (small/medium installation)

► Start the device on the network

► When the left led blinks in green, press the device button for at least 10 seconds until all LED switch off

► Release the button ... the device is now in programming mode.

► Select the device role by pressing the device button (once you're on the right one, let 4s and both leds become red meaning it's resetting with this role)

Integrator/DECT manager with dynamic IP settings (named All-in-one with dynamic IP):

► Short press the device button until both LEDs light blue. . . . The IP address will be assigned by a DHCP server in your network.

N870IP-2blue.png

Integrator/DECT manager with fixed IP settings (named All-in-one with fixed IP):

► Short press the device button until the right LED lights blue. . . .The following IP settings are set: IP address: 192.168.143.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

N870IP-1blue.png

Base station:

► Short press the device button until the right LED lights green.

N870IP-1green.png

Base station and DECT manager:

► Short press the device button until the left LED lights blue and the right LED lights green.

N870IP-bluegreen.png

Refer to this page to know in which role (and status in this role) the device is depending the LED's pattern.
If something went wrong, you can reset the station with following procedure :
► Press the device button for at least 10 seconds until all LED switch off release the button . . . the device is now in programming mode
► Press the device button until both LED lights blue
► Press the device button for at least four seconds . . . the device is reset and rebooted

Web configuration

If the IP address is assigned dynamically via your local network's DHCP server, you can find the current IP address on the DHCP server in the list of registered DHCP clients. The MAC address can be found on the rear of the device. If necessary, contact the network administrator for your local network.

At first login, credentials are admin / admin

Provision the DECT Manager

To have a minimal system with 1 Headset able to do a call towards the PBX through 1 DECT Manager, you'll have to provision to the DECT Manager :

Manual provisioning

Prerequisites :
  • Module Gigaset Phone Support installed
  • One SDG5 resource created and assigned to an extension for each headset to provision (+ Apply Change)
  • Access to DECT Manager's Web interface

1. Get generated asterisk configuration
After Apply Change, keep aside SDG5XXXX definitions in /etc/asterisk/gen_sip.conf :
root@00005040# grep "\[SDG5" /etc/asterisk/gen_sip.conf -A 15
[SDG50004]
type=friend
username=SDG50004
secret=3scaux387466
dtmfmode=rfc2833
restrictid=no
transport=tls
rtprangeid=1
encryption=yes
host=dynamic
mailbox=403
pickupgroup=
callgroup=
context=Device
callerid=Real Gigaset 2 Headset<403>
setvar=PICKUPMARK=403
...

2. Create a new SIP provider profile
Open profile parameters of a SOP-Config extension for Fusion SOP.

On the DECT Manager, Web Interface ► Provider or PBX profiles ► IP1

Fill in the general data :
  • Domain : in SOP-Config, VOIP Public ► IP address on Internet OR IF EMPTY Fusion's public IP
  • Proxy server address : in SOP-Config, VOIP Public ► IP address on Internet OR IF EMPTY Fusion's public IP
  • Proxy server port : in SOP-Config, VOIP Public ► Public SIP TLS port OR IF EMPTY the Fusion's sip-tls port (likely 5061)
  • Transport Protocol : TLS

provider_cfg1.png

Activate G729 codec :

provider_cfg2.png

Save with "set"

3. Create an entry for each headset in Mobile Devices
On the DECT Manager, Web Interface ► Mobile devices ► Add
and fill in :
  • IPUI : you should have configured it in the corresponding SDG5 resource
  • RegStatus : pass it to "To register"
  • Set the PIN code you want or let it to '0000'
  • Authentication name/password : the fields username/secret in gen_sip.conf
  • Username : same as authentication name (needed!)
  • VoIP provider : the profile you created just before

headset_cfg.png

Click on "Register now" to open a registration window on the DECT manager and, on the headset, search for "Register" in menus.
Enter the PIN you gave and your headset should now be Registered in DECT Manager and have a ✓ informing its SIP provisioning went well.
You can always register the handsets to the DECT Manager later from Web Interface ► Mobile devices ► Registration Centre.

Verify the handsets registered to Asterisk :
root@00005040:~# asterisk -rx "sip show peers like SDG"
Name/username Host Dyn Forcerport ACL Port Status Description
SDG50003/SDG50003 172.16.34.100 D N 60505 OK (6 ms)
SDG50004/SDG50004 172.16.34.100 D N 60505 OK (30 ms)
2 sip peers [Monitored: 2 online, 0 offline Unmonitored: 0 online, 0 offline]

From now, you should be able to make an receive calls from your registered headphones.

Provisioning from generated files

You can avoid manual configuration of VoIP provider profile, individual headsets and additional base stations by providing a config file generated from SDG5/6 resources to your fresh new DECT Manager.
This file should have been generated at Apply Changes by postsync script at /var/www/gigaset/MAC_DM.xml.

Prerequisites :
  • Module Gigaset Phone Support installed
  • One SDG5 resource created and assigned to an extension for each headset to provision (+ Apply Change) → valid provisioning file generated at /var/www/gigaset/MAC_DM.xml
  • Access to DECT Manager's Web interface
  • Optional : having the DHCP the DECT Manager queries configured to return in Option 66/114 the provisioning URL http://IPSOP/gigaset or another means

If you cannot afford to have to provisioning URL filled in automatically, just do it through the web interface (SETTINGS ► System ► Provisioning and configuration: "Provisioning server").

Once you're done with this URL, click on "Start auto configuration". It is expected to get back a "Provisioning Successfull" and following components provisioned :
  • VoIP provider 'Escaux' as the first profile in the list (Settings ► Provider or PBX profiles). NOTE : it actually overwrote the first profile, so don't use it for custom configurations
  • All Mobile Devices (Settings ► Mobile Devices ► Administrations) with their parameters + credentials, in state registered (✓ in "SIP" column)
  • Additional base stations if you configured some SDG6 (Settings ► Base stations ► Administration)

Now you can open a registration window on the DECT Manager and, on each handset, register it using the right PIN (Settings ► Mobile devices ► Registration Centre).

DECT manager / base station firmware upgrade

  • Install the new version of the module Gigaset Phone Support through the SMP.
  • Launch an apply changes on the SMP.
  • Reboot the DECT manager / base station through the SMP a first time, the DECT manager will download his configuration file:
  • Reboot DECT manager / base station through the SMP a second time, the DECT manager / base station will upgrade their firmwares:

Handset firmware upgrade

  • Handset has to be fully charged.
  • Open the Menu of the handset go to: Settings - System - Handset Update
  • Downloading the software will take 15-20 minutes.

Troubleshooting Nx70

Access the DECT Manger WebUI / CLI by ssh

If the DECT Manager isn't directly reachable from your laptop, you can access it by creating an SSH tunnel acting like a proxy through the SOP.

To access the WebUI :
remdec@cursa:~$ ssh -L 8001:GIGASET_IP:443 SOPKEY.sop.escaux.com
Login the DECT Manager through the following URL on your browser : https://localhost:8001/

To access a shell on the DECT Manager :

First login to the WebUI and activate the SSH access : SETTINGS ► System ► Web Configurator ► CLI access via ssh and fill in a password.

Now create a tunnel to reach sshd on Gigaset and connect to it from your machine
remdec@cursa:~$ ssh -L 8002:GIGASET_IP:22 SOPKEY.sop.escaux.com
# other new terminal
remdec@cursa:~$ ssh cli@localhost -p 8002
cli@localhost's password:
ControlSocket /var/run/user/1000/ssh-d8c64e4753cd51472c2b1dbc9c1c90783a976f80.socket already exists, disabling multiplexing

There is no built-in capture tool in the UI. Windows users can give a try to this desktop tool.

Through SSH CLI : you can use tcpdump to capture and fill a file that you can pull locally through your tunnel : remdec@cursa:/tmp$ scp -P 8002 cli@localhost:/tmp/testdump .

  • At first setup, change the admin password
