Service Assurance: Zero Config Phone Provisioning 1

This documents how to troubleshoot the Zero Config Phone Provisioning service.

Overview

Refer to Architecture Guide for a detailed description of how the Zero Config Phone Provisioning works.

Things to check and do by Customer or Reseller

  • Retry the IVR: race-conditions and other non-persistent failures could occur but simply dialing the Zero-Config IVR once again should resolve them. If the problem remains after the second try, it's probably persistent and retrying again will not help.
  • Run the System task in the foreground: Set the task to "never" run automatically. Then run it in the foreground by clicking the "Run" icon.
  • Check the output of the task: the easiest way is by running the task in the foreground and clicking "View Report". Alternatively, if the task is scheduled you can set an email address to send the output to.
  • Reboot the phone manually. (see phone specific documentation)
  • Reset the phone to factory defaults. (see phone specific documentation)
  • Verify the customer DHCP server: after the phone has booted it should receive an IP address, TFTP server. Both can be verified on the phone itself. (see phone specific documentation)
  • Verify that the phone receives its initial config from the SOP. After fetching the config, the SIP server should be set which can be verified on the phone itself. (see phone specific documentation)
  • Verify on the SMP that the MAC address is filled in by the Zero Config task.
  • Verify on the SMP that the phone is set as primary phone by the Zero Config task.
  • Do a manual apply changes
