Aggregated Performance (APE1)

Description

This probe monitors a list of other probes.

It computes the sum of channel usage as reported by each monitored probe.

The monitored probes can be from any SOP of the cluster.

Release notes

Version 1.1.2 - Early deployment
  • Bugfix: Probe was not working when long name were used in Nagios Host name (M15249)
  • Bugfix: Automatic probe selection was not working (M15249)
  • Dependency:
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-smp-base >= 1.8
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-config >= 1.9.1
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-plugins >= 1.4

  • Bugfix: Did not work in a cluster of hosts (M0)
  • Deprecated: New feature did not pass QA
  • Dependency:
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-smp-base >= 1.8
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-config >= 1.9.1
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-plugins >= 1.4

Version 1.0 - Early deployment
  • Feature: Initial release (M5806)
  • Dependency:
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-smp-base >= 1.8
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-config >= 1.7
    • (on BMS, please contact ESCAUX) escaux-nagios-plugins >= 1.4
    • SMP >= 4.9 (optional: to be able to disable probe notifications)

Resource configuration interface

GUI unavailable.

Resource configuration parameters

  • Warning level: Number of used channels needed to set Warning state, ignored if left empty
  • Critical level: Number of used channels needed to set Critical state, ignored if left empty

  • Probes on cluster: Select probes from the cluster which should be monitored.
  • Probes on vSOPs: Select probes from vSOPs on this host which should be monitored.

  • Automatic vSOP probes selection: Automatically select probes from vSOPs of the same cluster. Setting this to yes overrides the selection made in the 2 previous lists.

In these last two lists, only probes exposing a number of used channels are available: PRI Usage (ZPU1), SIP trunk (SPA3), IAX trunk (IPQ2), Channels Usage (HPU1).

If you activate notifications on this probe, it is recommended to set notifications to "None" or "Only Critical" on each monitored probe, to avoid redundant notifications.

Limitations

  • You can either monitor probes from the cluster or from vSOPs, not both. The "probes on cluster" list takes precedences if something is selected in it.

  • When used on a cluster of SOPs, this probe is linked to the cluster master SOPkey. To see the probe on the BMS, the monitoring of the cluster should be activated (in Cluster Configuration).

  • This probe depends on some BMS components, ask Escaux to do the upgrade if needed.

  • The number of used channels could be higher than the total number of channels, depending on the underlying technology.

Performance graphs

This probe generates a graph with the following performance metrics:

  • Total: the sum of the total number of channels defined in each monitored probe (30 for PRI, configurable for SIP trunk, none for IAX trunk)
  • Used: the sum of the number of channels currently in use in each monitored probe
  • Free: the sum of the number of channels currently available in each monitored probe

Alarms

This probe can report following alarm states:

  • CRITICAL: the number of used channels reached the defined critical level
  • WARNING: the number of used channels reached the defined warning level

If no Critical or Warning level is set, the corresponding alarm state will never happen.

Possible causes

Depends on the monitored probes (see list above).

Possible consequences

Depends on the monitored probes (see list above).

Possible actions

Depends on the monitored probes (see list above).

Example of use: Monitoring a bundle of PRI on several SOP of the same cluster

  • Create a ZPU1 probe for each PRI on each SOP
  • Create an APE1 probe on the cluster
    • Select all the ZPU1 probes in monitored probes

The APE1 probe will return the number of channels used throughout all PRI selected, compared to the total of n*30 channels.
