Serial cable connection

Connection

The console interface designed on VENUS Series is a female, DCE type RS-232 port. A straight DB-9 to DB-9 or DB-9 to DB-25 serial cable can be used to connect VENUS Series directly to a PC’s serial port for terminal operation.

Speed and Data format: 115200bps, none parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no flow control.

mhe@mhe-laptop ~ $ screen /dev/ttyS0 115200,cs8,-parenb,-cstopb,-hupcl

Where,
  • /dev/ttyS0: Linux serial port /dev/ttySX
  • 115200 baud
  • 8 data bits
  • no parity
  • one stop bit
  • VT100 terminal emulation

Enable DHCP Client

DONE Navigate to:  Configuration Menu -> System -> DHCP/BootP Configuration.

DHCP/BootP Client: enable

Limitations

For the provisioning, if you use your own DHCP server you've two possibilities:
  • Add a static lease for each Tainet Venus with the option bootfile-name set to {mac}.ini (Replace {mac} by the device mac address, for example: 0090bb1740a6.ini)
  • Skip the option bootfile-name for Tainet Venus devices.
