RhinoChannelBank

Rhino's Channel Bank is a device which converts 12/24 (depending on the model) FXS or FXO ports (or a combination of FXS and FXO ports) into one T1. This T1 can be connected to a PRA card which is configured in T1 mode. The analog connections are hooked up to a patch panel which is connected to the channelbank.

Configuration of the PBX

  • Choose '24FXS' in the Zaptel module
  • Create 12 or 24 ZDAXXXXX resources with the correct zap channel ID. These resources replace the PRI resource configuration entirely: The PRI controller's resource which is used to connect to the channelbank must be removed.

Installation of the Channel bank

  • Connect the power cable
  • Connect a crossed PRA cable between the PBX and channel bank. The cables that we deliver with the channel bank at the time of writing this document are purple.
  • Connect the cable between the channel bank and patch panel

Configuration of the Channel bank

The channel bank can auto configure itself if you perform the following steps:

  • Restart the Channel bank. This can be done by unplugging the power supply for about 15 seconds.
  • Press the 4 red buttons at the front of the channel bank in the following order: 1 - 3 - 2 - 4 . The channel bank will now enter the configuration mode.
  • Choose the red button below "Configure"
  • Choose the red button below "AutoT1"
  • Choose the red button below "Yes"

The channel bank should now reconfigured itself. While this is happening, indicator lights may light up. After making sure that the configuration part on the PBX has been performed, hookup a analogue phone to one of the analogue ports and perform a test call.

Troubleshooting

  • Check the connection between the channel bank and PBX with the SOP Shell:
DONE Navigate to: SOPShell > Diagnostics > Telephony > PRI Status
  • Restart the channel bank by unplugging the power supply for about 15 seconds.
  • Check the configuration of the channel bank by performing the "AutoT1" procedure again.
  • Make sure that the PRA controller is in 'T1' mode.
  • Check the Zaptel and Asterisk configuration
  • Use an analogue phone hooked up to the channel bank to test incoming/outgoing calls.
