Administrator Guide: G.729 Annex A codec activation

Introduction

The G.729 Annex A codec is a proprietary codec which is widely used to reduce the communication bandwidth of a VoIP call while still maintaining a good quality.

How to activate the G.729 Annex A codec?

Deployments after 03/2014

Deployments before 03/2014

  • You should first send an email to sales@escaux.com including the offer number, the allocation of licenses per SOPs.
  • When the keys are received and the SOP is installed, make sure TCP port 443 is opened on the firewall for outgoing AND incoming traffic between the SOP and register.digium.com (216.207.245.3).
  • Go to the Shell > Subsystems > G729 > Post installation (Asterisk module >= 2.31.3 required).
  • Follow the instruction on the screen (Select Digium Products category, G.729 Codec product, give the license key you get from ESCAUX).
  • Enter this credentials :

  • Restart Asterisk
  • The configuration can be verified with the entry "Subsystems > G729 > check g729 usage" in the shell

In case of trouble

The codec can be registered twice. If there was a problem with the first server just do the registering procedure on the second server. No need to unregister on the first, the latter server will be the only which is allowed the use the license.
