Administrator Guide: Zero Config Phone Provisioning 1 - zeroconf

This documents how to enable the Zero Config Phone Provisioning service.

Introduction

Zero Config Phone Provisioning allows to efficiently add phones to a SOP or Cluster. The MAC address of the phone will be automatically detected and entered in the SMP. The extension can be configured through an IVR without using the SMP GUI.

Prerequisites

  • In case you use your own DHCP server, make sure it has the option 66 and option 160 (for polycom phones). See CustomerDhcpServerConfiguration

Service Enabling

Extensions

  • You MUST create each extension you plan to use with the ZeroConfig before typing it on the phone (Do not associate a resource with the extension)

Callflow

  • Create a static profile, e.g. ZeroConf (no parameters)
  • import callflow *088 from the library or download and import this file

  • Assign the callflow to the profile:
    • Application Selector STARTAPPLICATION
    • Profile ZeroConf
    • Status e.g. Default
    • Callflow root *088
  • Create an extension, e.g. 8888
    • Callflow ZeroConf.Default

Modules

Install or upgrade following modules to at least the version specified:
  • Phone Zero Config 1.0
  • TFTP Server module 3.0.0
  • Polycom Phone Support module 3.1.0 (if you use Polycom phones)
    • Set Unconfigured off-hook extension to the extension you created before, e.g. 8888
  • Aastra Phone Support module 1.1.0 (if you use Aastra phones)

System Task

Add a System Task:
  • PhoneZeroConfig 1.4

Phone Resources

Sufficient phone resources must be created in advance:
  • For Polycom IP330, use at least version 4.01.
  • ALERT! In a cluster, specify the sop, this won't be done automatically
  • Leave the MAC address blank. This signals that the resource is free to be assigned to a specific physical phone (MAC address) by the Zero Config process.
  • Don't assign the resource to an extension as primary phone. This will be done by the Zero Config process. Any previous assignment will be removed.

Usage

Before on-site installation

Set the PhoneZeroConfig task to run continuously:
  • Run automatically: Continuous

On-site

The on-site installation can be done by a technician with minimal skills and no access to the SMP GUI.

See the DRD_PhoneZeroConfig_1_UserGuide

After on-site installation

Stop the PhoneZeroConfig task:
  • Run automatically: Never

Limitations

  • The Zero Config Provisioning only works with versions smaller than 4 or greater than 4.2.0 for the module Polycom Phone Support. We recommend the use of at least version 4.2.0
  • The Zero Config Provisioning is currently supported for a limited set of phones and releases. Please refer to the release notes for the supported phones.
  • When you assign a phone to an extension, and then you decide to assign a different phone to this extension, the first phone will not be rebooted and will still have the extension on the screen (while it is not the phone of this extension). Rebooting the phone fixes the problem. [Mantis 3498]
  • When a polycom has been assigned to an extension but it has been replaced by another phone, the polycom will not auto-dial the zeroconf number anymore. You will have to press the number manually [Mantis 3500]
  • On older web interface versions, the task type 'continuous' might not be available. Please upgrade to the latest stable version
